Quantification of climate-induced interannual variability in residential U.S. electricity demand

We assess the sensitivity of residential electricity demand in 48 U S. states to seasonal climate variations and structural changes pertaining state-level household demand. The main objective is quantify effects variability on during winter summer seasons. use monthly demographic, energy, data from 2005 2017 a linear regression model find that interannual explains significant share variation: 42 states, more than 70% 50% winter, respectively, driven by climate. Our work suggests need for new datasets unexplained variance Findings this study are critical developing forecasts, which can aid power system operation management, particularly future with greater electrification end-use demands.
